We teach people how to treat us by the way we behave. What are you teaching people? To love and respect you and acknowledge your contribution with gratitude. Or To think of you as SO dependable that you'll do anything for them, even at the cost of your own health and sanity.
So, as is always the case, the toughest critics, the biggest backstabbers, the most challenging situations are always the people, places and issues where we have the biggest breakthroughs in our lives.
After all we aren't raising kids. We are raising our next generation political leaders, business owners, community advocates and professionals. But most of all, hopefully we are raising kind, compassionate and gentle men and women with a heart for their community and a commitment to do good in the world. Your kids are watching more than you know. Put on a good show.
